How it works

1. Cast the artifact by paying 0.
2. Toph, Hardheaded Teacher triggers, earthbending Izzet Boilerworks.
3. Resolve the artifact spell.
4. Activate Lithatog by sacrificing Izzet Boilerworks.
5. When Izzet Boilerworks dies, Toph, Hardheaded Teach triggers, returning Izzet Boilerworks from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
6. When Izzet Boilerworks enters, it triggers, returning the artifact cast in step 1 from the battlefield to your hand, as it's a land due to Toph, the First Metalbender.
7. Resolve the Lithatog ability

This intricate loop transforms a humble zero-mana artifact into a powerful engine by exploiting the dual nature of your permanents. Thanks to Toph, the First Metalbender, your nontoken artifacts are also lands, which allows Izzet Boilerworks to bounce that artifact back to your hand when it enters the battlefield. You can then sacrifice Izzet Boilerworks to Lithatog to pump its power, triggering Toph, Hardheaded Teacher to return the land straight from the graveyard to the battlefield. Meanwhile, Toph, Hardheaded Teacher also throws in free earthbend triggers whenever you recast your artifact, letting you generate an endless storm of triggers, Landfalls, and sacrifices.
