How it works

1. Activate Skirk Prospector by sacrificing Putrid Goblin.
2. When Putrid Goblin dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Vizier of Remedies.
3. Repeat.

This classic combo relies on neutralizing the drawback of persist by turning it into a net-zero counter loop. When Putrid Goblin dies, its persist ability normally places a -1/-1 counter on it to prevent it from coming back again, but the replacement effect from Vizier of Remedies reduces that counter count to zero. This allows Putrid Goblin to return to the battlefield fresh and ready to be sacrificed to Skirk Prospector once more, generating an endless stream of red mana alongside infinite sacrifice, death, and entering-the-battlefield triggers.
