How it works

1. Activate Skirk Prospector by sacrificing it.
2. When Skirk Prospector dies, Mortuary and Ashes of the Abhorrent trigger.
3. Resolve the Mortuary trigger, putting Skirk Prospector from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
4. Resolve the Ashes of the Abhorrent trigger, causing you to gain 1 life
5. Cast Skirk Prospector from the top of your library by paying 1 life.
6. Repeat.

This elegant engine uses Mortuary to constantly intercept your dying creatures and redirect them right back to the top of your library instead of letting them stay in the graveyard. While Ashes of the Abhorrent is mostly there to keep opponents from messing with your graveyard, its life-gaining trigger conveniently cushions the cost of your plays. That cushion is vital because Gwenom, Remorseless lets you bypass traditional mana costs by paying life equal to the mana value of cards you cast from the top of your library. Finally, Skirk Prospector serves as both the willing sacrifice to fuel the loop and the engine's output, converting each iteration into fresh red mana to keep the cycle spinning indefinitely.
