How it works

1. During your precombat main phase, activate Necrotic Ooze using Alaborn Veteran's ability by tapping it, giving it +2/+2 until end of turn.
2. Activate Necrotic Ooze using Cinderhaze Wretch's second ability by putting a -1/-1 counter on it, untapping it.
3. Repeat.

Necrotic Ooze serves as the brilliant centerpiece here, borrowing the text of any creature resting in the graveyard to fuel its own engine. By tapping itself through the borrowed capability of Alaborn Veteran, the Ooze grants itself a massive +2/+2 pump until end of turn. It then immediately untaps by utilizing the activated ability borrowed from Cinderhaze Wretch, which conveniently places a -1/-1 counter on the Ooze—a cost that is completely nullified by the net positive toughness buff it just received. By looping these two distinct activated abilities back and forth, you can infinitely repeat the process to grow your commander or legacy threat into an infinitely large creature until end of turn.
