How it works
- Play Glacial Chasm either from your hand or from your graveyard.
- When Glacial Chasm enters the battlefield, its second ability triggers, causing you to sacrifice another land you control.
- Play any land from your graveyard.
- At the beginning of your next upkeep, Glacial Chasm's cumulative upkeep ability triggers, allowing you to choose not to pay the cost and sacrifice it instead.
- Repeat.
This brilliant setup wraps you in an impenetrable defense while constantly recycling your real estate to bypass cumulative upkeep. By playing Glacial Chasm either from your hand or using Ancient Greenwarden's ability to pull lands straight from your graveyard, you completely shut down incoming damage, even though Glacial Chasm forces you to sacrifice a land upon entry and demands life payments via its cumulative upkeep. Captain Kathryn Janeway keeps your momentum going by granting an extra land drop each turn and triggering explore whenever creatures enter, while Ancient Greenwarden doubles up any land-entry triggers. Whenever the cumulative upkeep gets too steep, you simply let Glacial Chasm go to the graveyard, replay it immediately, and repeat the loop to stay safe behind the Chasm indefinitely.
