How it works

1. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing another creature you control, adding 1.
2. When the creature dies, Battle of Hoover Dam triggers, putting two +1/+1 counters on Ghave.
3. Activate Ghave's first ability by paying 1 and removing a +1/+1 counter from it, creating a 1/1 Saproling creature token.
4. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Ghave, Guru of Spores into a self-sustaining engine by converting its own body into fuel and back again. By sacrificing creatures to Phyrexian Altar for mana, you trigger Battle of Hoover Dam on the Legion setting to pump two fresh +1/+1 counters right back onto Ghave. Those counters are then immediately spent via Ghave's first ability, paying the exact mana generated by the altar to spin out a fresh 1/1 green Saproling token ready to be sacrificed to the altar once more.
