How it works

1. Cast the artifact by paying 0.
2. Toph, Hardheaded Teacher triggers, earthbending Arid Archway.
3. Resolve the artifact spell.
4. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Arid Archway.
5. When Arid Archway dies, Toph, Hardheaded Teach triggers, returning Arid Archway from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
6. When Arid Archway enters, it triggers, returning the artifact cast in step 1 from the battlefield to your hand, as it's a land due to Toph, the First Metalbender.
7. Repeat.

This ingenious loop transforms free artifacts into a self-sustaining mana engine by turning the rules of the battlefield inside out with Toph, the First Metalbender, which permanently makes your nontoken artifacts into lands. This status allows Arid Archway's enters-the-battlefield trigger to target those cheap artifacts and return them to your hand, while Phyrexian Altar provides a convenient outlet to sacrifice Arid Archway whenever it gets animated. Each time Arid Archway hits the graveyard, Toph, Hardheaded Teacher brings it right back to the battlefield tapped, keeping the loop sealed and generating an endless bounty of colored mana and triggers.
