How it works

  1. Cast Iron Apprentice by paying 1, causing it to enter the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
  2. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Iron Apprentice, adding 1.
  3. When Iron Apprentice dies, it triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Evolution Witness.
  4. Evolution Witness triggers, returning Iron Apprentice from your graveyard to your hand.
  5. Repeat.
