How it works

1. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Clockwork Hydra.
2. When Clockwork Hydra dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to its replacement effect.
3. Repeat.

This loop turns the life-draining cycle of life and death into an absolute engine, anchored by the shifting power of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight. While Eirdu's front face gives your creature spells convoke, it is Isilu's backside that truly enables the magic by granting your other nontoken creatures persist. When you sacrifice Clockwork Hydra to Phyrexian Altar for mana, persist returns the Hydra to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter. However, because Clockwork Hydra's own counters and abilities let it reset or manage its state, you can feed it back into the Altar endlessly. The result is an infinite fountain of colored mana, along with boundless death, sacrifice, and entry triggers to overwhelm the table.
