How it works

  1. Activate Blasting Station by tapping it and sacrificing Evernight Shade
  2. When Evernight Shade dies, its undying ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
  3. When Evernight Shade enters, Blasting Station triggers, untapping Blasting Station.
  4. Resolve the Blasting Station ability from step 1.
  5. Activate Blasting Station by tapping it and sacrificing Evernight Shade
  6. When Evernight Shade dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
  7. Evernight Shade enters and dies as a state-based action due to having 0 toughness. Its undying ability and Blasting Station trigger.
  8. Resolve the undying trigger, returning Evernight Shade from your graveyard to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
  9. When Evernight Shade enters, Blasting Station triggers. Resolve both triggers from this step and step 7, untapping Blasting Station.
  10. Resolve the Blasting Station ability from step 5.
  11. Repeat from step 5.

This looping execution relies on Isilu, Carrier of Twilight—the transformed face of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn—to continuously rewrite the rules of the graveyard by granting persist to your other nontoken creatures, neatly canceling out the +1/+1 counters from Evernight Shade's native undying ability. Blasting Station acts as the engine's beating heart, sacrificing Evernight Shade to deal direct damage while its entry trigger immediately untaps the artifact to ready it for the next repetition. Because the -1/+1 counter annihilation rule causes Evernight Shade to instantly perish when it returns with mismatched counters, the cycle endlessly alternates between undying and persist to churn out infinite damage and death triggers.
