How it works

1. Activate Altar of Dementia by sacrificing a green nontoken creature.
2. When the creature dies, Verdant Succession and Mortuary trigger.
3. Resolve the Mortuary trigger, putting the creature on top of your library from your graveyard.
4. Resolve the Verdant Succession trigger, returning the creature from your library to the battlefield.
5. Resolve the Altar of Dementia ability.
6. Repeat.

This looping setup creates an endless cycle of sacrifice and rebirth by letting two distinct triggers catch your green nontoken creature the moment it hits the graveyard. Mortuary immediately places the fallen creature on top of your library, while Verdant Succession capitalizes on its death to fetch that exact same card straight back onto the battlefield. Because Altar of Dementia lets you sacrifice the creature right back into the loop to mill cards equal to its power, you can repeat this process indefinitely until your opponents' libraries are entirely gone.
