How it works

1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing a green nontoken creature.
2. When the creature dies, Verdant Succession and Mortuary trigger.
3. Resolve the Mortuary trigger, putting the creature on top of your library from your graveyard.
4. Resolve the Verdant Succession trigger, returning the creature from your library to the battlefield.
5. Resolve the Shilgengar ability.
6. Repeat.

This brilliant loop turns Shilgengar, Sire of Famine into an endless engine for sacrifice by exploiting a clever ordering of graveyard and library triggers. When you feed a green nontoken creature to Shilgengar's first ability, both Mortuary and Verdant Succession trigger simultaneously upon its death; stacking them correctly ensures Mortuary places the card back on top of your library just in time for Verdant Succession to immediately search it right back onto the battlefield. This leaves you free to continuously cycle the same creature through sacrifice and rebirth, stacking up an infinite supply of Blood tokens along the way.
