How it works

  1. Play Gruul Turf.
  2. When Gruul Turf enters the battlefield, it and Evolution Sage trigger.
  3. Resolve the Gruul Turf trigger, returning it from the battlefield to your hand.
  4. Resolve the Evolution Sage trigger, putting a charge counter on Magistrate's Scepter.
  5. Repeat from step 1 until Magistrate's Scepter has four or more charge counters on it.
  6. Activate Magistrate's Scepter's second ability by tapping it and removing three charge counters from it, causing you to take an extra turn after this one.
  7. Repeat each turn.

This ingenious engine feeds on the self-correcting loop of Gruul Turf, which constantly returns itself to your hand upon entry to be replayed over and over again. Azusa, Lost but Seeking provides the vital extra land drops needed to deploy that same Gruul Turf turn after turn, while Evolution Sage triggers on each landfall to rapidly proliferate the charge counters piling up on Magistrate's Scepter. Once the scepter hits the required threshold, you simply cash in three counters for an extra turn, letting you repeat the entire land-bouncing spectacle indefinitely until your opponents are hopelessly locked out of the game.
