How it works

1. Cast Altered Ego by paying its mana cost. Choose to have it enter the battlefield as a copy of Rakdos Joins Up.
2. Put Altered Ego into your graveyard due to the legend rule.
3. Altered Ego's first ability and second ability trigger, along with Rakdos Joins Up's second ability.
4. Resolve Altered Ego's second trigger and Rakdos Joins Up's trigger, dealing damage to target opponent.
5. Resolve Altered Ego's first trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters on it as a copy of Rakdos Joins Up.
6. Repeat from step 2.

This loop transforms the legendary enchantment rule into a lethal weapon by leveraging Altered Ego as a self-replicating clone of Rakdos Joins Up. Because Altered Ego cannot be countered and can enter as a copy of Rakdos Joins Up with extra +1/+1 counters, state-based actions immediately send one copy to the graveyard, which triggers both its own graveyard-return ability and the original Rakdos Joins Up's damage-dealing reaction. As Altered Ego continually returns itself to the battlefield with two additional +1/+1 counters, the repeating death triggers rain down lethal damage equal to the dying legendary creature's power onto an opponent. Meanwhile, Starfield of Nyx quietly sits in the wings, ready to pull an enchantment back from your graveyard during your upkeep to help set the stage or round out your magical workshop.
