How it works

  1. Activate Obscuring Aether by paying 1G mana, turning it face-down as a 2/2 creature.
  2. Activate Obscuring Aether by tapping it, adding G mana.
  3. Activate Thermopod's second ability by sacrificing Obscuring Aether, adding R mana.
  4. When Obscuring Aether dies, Yarus' second ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield face-down, then turning it face-up.
  5. Repeat.

This ingenious loop turns a modest enchantment into an engine of endless transformation by exploiting the unique interaction between its own morph-adjacent mechanics and the graveyard support of Yarus, Roar of the Old Gods. With Cryptolith Rite granting your board the ability to tap for mana, Obscuring Aether can turn itself face-down and tap for the very green mana needed to activate its own morph transformation cost. You then feed that face-down creature to Thermopod, generating red mana and triggering Yarus, Roar of the Old Gods to yank the card right back from the graveyard—returning it face-down and immediately turning it face-up, ready to repeat the cycle infinitely.
