How it works

1. Whenever an opponent casts a spell, activate Lullmage Mentor by tapping seven untapped Merfolk, countering that spell.
2. Lullmage Mentor triggers, creating a total of twelve 1/1 Merfolk creature tokens.
3. Repeat.

This self-sustaining counter-lock centers around Lullmage Mentor, whose activated ability lets you tap seven untapped Merfolk to counter any spell an opponent casts. When that ability resolves, Lullmage Mentor's first ability triggers because an ability you control has countered a spell, normally creating a single 1/1 blue Merfolk creature token. However, the replacement effects of Parallel Lives, Mondrak, Glory Dominus, and Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation multiply that single token generation exponentially, instantly yielding a dozen new Merfolk to immediately fuel the next activation.
