How it works

1. Whenever an opponent casts a spell, activate Lullmage Mentor by tapping seven untapped Merfolk, countering that spell.
2. Lullmage Mentor triggers, creating a total of twelve 1/1 Merfolk creature tokens.
3. Repeat.

This clever lock relies on Lullmage Mentor's activated ability to counter your opponent's spells, which in turn triggers its own counter-ability to generate a token swarm. That token production is fundamentally broken by a stacked amplifier effect: Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation, Parallel Lives, and Elspeth, Storm Slayer all feature replacement effects that multiply your token creation, turning a single 1/1 Merfolk into an overwhelming wave of twelve tokens every time the Mentor fires. Because tapping those newly minted Merfolk is all it takes to fuel Lullmage Mentor's counterspell loop again, you completely seal opponents out of casting spells while flooding the board with near-infinite tapped creature tokens.
