How it works

1. Whenever an opponent casts a spell, activate Lullmage Mentor by tapping seven untapped Merfolk, countering that spell.
2. Lullmage Mentor triggers, creating a total of eight 1/1 Merfolk creature tokens.
3. Repeat.

This lock relies on an explosive exponential token-multiplying engine that turns a single counterspell into an overwhelming army. Whenever Lullmage Mentor counters an opponent's spell using its activated ability, its own triggered ability normally creates a single 1/1 Merfolk token—but Anointed Procession, Primal Vigor, and Doubling Season all apply to that event, compounding the creation into eight tokens at once. Because you need only seven untapped Merfolk to activate Lullmage Mentor again, this cascade leaves you with a net gain of fresh bodies every single time, letting you easily counter every spell your opponents cast while flooding the board with near-infinite tapped creature tokens.
