How it works
- Activate Kaya's second loyalty ability by removing two loyalty counters from it, causing you to double any tokens you create this turn.
- Cast Rite of Replication with kicker by paying 7, creating ten token copies of Lullmage Mentor.
- Whenever an opponent casts a spell, activate a Lullmage Mentor by tapping seven Merfolk you control, countering that spell.
- Each Lullmage Mentor triggers, creating twice that many 1/1 Merfolk creature tokens.
- Repeat from step 3.
This brilliant cascade of Merfolk begins by preparing the battlefield with Kaya, Geist Hunter, whose negative loyalty ability ensures that any future token creation will yield twice the usual amount. When you cast a fully kicked Rite of Replication targeting a Lullmage Mentor, Kaya's replacement effect steps in to flood the board with ten copies of the Mentor instead of the usual five. From that point on, you have a self-sustaining security system: whenever an opponent dares to cast a spell, you can tap seven of your newly minted Merfolk to activate one Lullmage Mentor's counter ability. Lullmage Mentor's own triggered ability then rewards that counter by creating even more Merfolk tokens than you spent, leaving you with an overwhelming army, a never-ending supply of counterspells, and a complete lock on the game.
