How it works

1. Whenever an opponent casts a spell, activate Lullmage Mentor by tapping seven untapped Merfolk, countering that spell.
2. Lullmage Mentor triggers, creating a total of eight 1/1 Merfolk creature tokens.
3. Repeat.

This clever loop creates an impenetrable counterspell lock by turning a single counter into an exponential army of fish. When an opponent tries to cast anything, you tap Lullmage Mentor along with six other Merfolk to counter it, which triggers Lullmage Mentor's ability to spawn a fresh token. Because Parallel Lives, Primal Vigor, and Mondrak, Glory Dominus all feature replacement effects that double token creation simultaneously, that single generated token explodes into eight new Merfolk instead. You now have more than enough bodies to immediately pay Lullmage Mentor's tapping cost again for the next spell your opponent dares to cast, locking the entire board down completely.
