How it works

This elegant loop transforms a single counterspell into an overwhelming tidal wave of Merfolk by leveraging an exponential token-multiplying engine. When Lullmage Mentor taps seven untapped Merfolk to counter an opponent's spell, its own triggered ability normally rewards you with a single 1/1 blue Merfolk creature token. However, the replacement effects of Adrix and Nev, Twincasters, Anointed Procession, and Elspeth, Storm Slayer stack together to multiply that single token generation exponentially, instantly flooding your board with eight new bodies. Because those newly created Merfolk are untapped, you immediately have more than enough fodder to activate Lullmage Mentor again, allowing you to completely lock opponents out of casting spells while amassing a near-infinite army.
