How it works

1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Maulfist Squad.
2. When Maulfist Squad dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Maulfist Squad enters, its fabricate ability triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. Resolve the Shilgengar ability.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Shilgengar, Sire of Famine into a relentless engine by sacrificing Maulfist Squad, which yields Blood tokens through Shilgengar's ability while triggering the creature's persist granted by Isilu, Carrier of Twilight (the back face of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn). When Maulfist Squad returns from the graveyard, its fabricate 1 ability triggers to place a +1/+1 counter on it, which immediately neutralizes the incoming -1/+1 counter through state-based actions. This resets the creature so it can be sacrificed again, letting you loop the process endlessly to generate infinite sacrifices, enters-the-battlefield triggers, and a mountain of Blood tokens.
