How it works

1. Activate Umbral Collar Zealot by sacrificing Maulfist Squad.
2. When Maulfist Squad dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
3. When Maulfist Squad enters, its fabricate ability triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on it.
4. Resolve the Umbral Collar Zealot ability.
5. Repeat.

This ingenious loop relies on the constant recycling of Maulfist Squad, whose persist ability—bestowed by the twilight side of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight—brings it back from the graveyard with a -1/-1 counter whenever it dies. Fortunately, the +1/+1 counter from Maulfist Squad's own fabricate ability immediately cancels out that -1/-1 counter as a state-based action, resetting the creature so it can be sacrificed to Umbral Collar Zealot all over again. Meanwhile, the day side of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight grants your creature spells convoke to help you cast your threats using the creatures you've amassed, while Umbral Collar Zealot lets you filter your library via surveil with every single sacrifice.
