How it works

1. Activate Umbral Collar Zealot by sacrificing the persist creature.
2. When the persist creature dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Grumgully
3. Resolve the Umbral Collar Zealot ability.
4. Repeat

This elegant engine turns a simple sacrifice loop into a bottomless well of triggers by exploiting the interplay between Grumgully, the Generous and any creature with persist. Because Grumgully bestows an additional +1/+1 counter upon non-Human entry, it instantly neutralizes the -1/-1 counter that persist would normally apply, allowing the creature to return to the battlefield indefinitely. Meanwhile, Umbral Collar Zealot acts as the sacrificial outlet that keeps the loop moving while letting you filter your draws through repeated surveil triggers.
