How it works

1. Cast Whitemane Lion by paying 0 and 2 life due to Defiler of Faith and The Wind Crystal.
2. Defiler of Faith triggers, creating a 1/1 Soldier creature token.
3. When the Soldier enters, Auriok Champion triggers, causing you to gain life.
4. Resolve Whitemane Lion. When it enters, it and Auriok Champion trigger.
5. Resolve the Whitemane Lion trigger, returning it from the battlefield to your hand.
6. Resolve the Auriok Champion trigger, causing you to gain life.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Whitemane Lion into a zero-mana self-returning engine by leveraging cost reduction and life manipulation. With The Wind Crystal and Defiler of Faith both reducing the lion's mana cost down to nothing, you can repeatedly cast it from your hand for just two life apiece. Every time the cat bounces itself back to your hand, Defiler of Faith replaces the spellcasting with a fresh Soldier token, which in turn triggers Auriok Champion to constantly pad your life total—doubled right back by The Wind Crystal's life-doubling effect to keep your engine safe and rolling indefinitely.
