How it works

1. Cast Whitemane Lion by paying 0 and 2 life due to Defiler of Faith and Grand Arbiter Augustin IV.
2. Defiler of Faith triggers, creating a 1/1 Soldier creature token.
3. When the Soldier enters, Thunder of Unity triggers, causing you to gain life.
4. Resolve Whitemane Lion. When it enters, it and Thunder of Unity trigger.
5. Resolve the Whitemane Lion trigger, returning it from the battlefield to your hand.
6. Resolve the Thunder of Unity trigger, causing you to gain life.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Whitemane Lion into a completely free, self-returning spell by combining Grand Arbiter Augustin IV's cost reduction with Defiler of Faith's ability to substitute life for white mana. Because Whitemane Lion's mana cost is reduced to zero, casting it becomes as simple as paying 2 life, which in turn triggers Defiler of Faith to generate a 1/1 white Soldier creature token. As these tokens and the Lion repeatedly enter and leave the battlefield, Chapter II/III of Thunder of Unity capitalizes on the chaos by draining your opponents and padding your life total with endless life gain.
