How it works

1. Cast Vesuvan Shapeshifter by paying its mana cost. Choose to have it enter the battlefield as a copy of Rakdos Joins Up.
2. Put Vesuvan Shapeshifter into your graveyard due to the legend rule.
3. Vesuvan Shapeshifter's first ability and second ability trigger, along with Rakdos Joins Up's second ability.
4. Resolve Vesuvan Shapeshifter's second trigger and Rakdos Joins Up's trigger, dealing damage to target opponent.
5. Resolve Vesuvan Shapeshifter's first trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters on it as a copy of Rakdos Joins Up.
6. Repeat from step 2.

This clever loop hinges on the legendary rule: when you cast Vesuvan Shapeshifter and have it enter the battlefield as a copy of Rakdos Joins Up, state-based actions immediately force you to put one into the graveyard. That death triggers Rakdos Joins Up's second ability to deal damage while simultaneously triggering the clone's own enter-the-battlefield effect, allowing you to return it right back to the battlefield with two additional +1/+1 counters. Starfield of Nyx sits quietly on the board, ready to assist your enchantments or return them if needed, while the Shapeshifter endlessly recycles itself to incinerate your opponents through repeated legendary deaths.
