How it works

  1. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Tom, Bert, and William.
  2. When Tom, Bert, and William die, they trigger, returning them from your graveyard to the battlefield as a noncreature artifact.
  3. Because Tom, Bert, and William enter as a noncreature artifact, March of the Machines will then cause Tom, Bert, and William to be a 5/5 artifact creature.
  4. Resolve the Shilgengar ability.
  5. Repeat.
  6. Activate Shilgengar's first ability by sacrificing another creature, creating a Blood token.
  7. The Blood token enters the battlefield as a 0/0 creature due to March of the Machines, and will have its toughness boosted by the permanent specified in the pre-requisites to prevent it from dying.
  8. Repeat.

This loop turns Tom, Bert, and William into an endlessly recycling engine of sacrifice and rebirth, fueled by the terrifying synergy of March of the Machines. Because Tom, Bert, and William naturally return to the battlefield as noncreature artifacts when they die, March of the Machines instantly animates them back into 5/5 creatures, bypassing traditional resurrection restrictions and letting you feed them right back into Shilgengar, Sire of Famine. As you sacrifice Tom, Bert, and William over and over, Shilgengar dutifully pumps out endless Blood tokens to feed your graveyard recursion or fuel any other nefarious schemes you have cooking on the board.
