How it works

1. Cast Clever Impersonator by paying its mana cost. Choose to have it enter the battlefield as a copy of Rakdos Joins Up.
2. Put Clever Impersonator into your graveyard due to the legend rule.
3. Clever Impersonator's first ability and second ability trigger, along with Rakdos Joins Up's second ability.
4. Resolve Clever Impersonator's second trigger and Rakdos Joins Up's trigger, dealing damage to target opponent and causing you to gain that much life.
5. Resolve Clever Impersonator's first trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters on it as a copy of Rakdos Joins Up.
6. Repeat from step 2.

This clever loop relies on the legend rule to repeatedly sacrifice our enchantments, turning Clever Impersonator into an endlessly recurring trigger machine. By having Clever Impersonator enter as a copy of Rakdos Joins Up, state-based actions immediately send it to the graveyard, but its own enter-the-battlefield ability still triggers to pull itself right back out with extra counters. Meanwhile, Rakdos Joins Up's passive ability watches this endless cycle of legendary deaths and fires off lethal damage to your opponent over and over again.
