How it works

1. Cast Shifting Wall by paying 0.
2. Shifting Wall enters and dies as a state-based action due to having 0 toughness.
3. Metastatic Evangel triggers, causing you to proliferate and put a +1/+1 counter on Evolution Witness.
4. Evolution Witness triggers, returning Shifting Wall from your graveyard to your hand.
5. Repeat.

This clever loop turns the self-sacrificing nature of Shifting Wall into a powerful recycling engine. When you cast Shifting Wall for zero mana, it immediately enters the battlefield with no toughness and heads straight to the graveyard, triggering Metastatic Evangel's ability to proliferate. That proliferation drops a crucial +1/+1 counter onto Evolution Witness, whose triggered ability responds by plucking Shifting Wall right back out of your graveyard and returning it to your hand so you can cast it all over again.
