How it works

  1. Cast Yawgmoth by paying 2B manaB mana.
  2. When Yawgmoth enters the battlefield, Scurry Oak's evolve ability triggers.
  3. Holding priority, activate Yawgmoth by paying 1 life and sacrificing a creature.
  4. When the creature dies, Cruel Celebrant triggers, causing you to gain 1 life and each opponent to lose 1 life.
  5. Resolve the Yawgmoth ability, putting a -1/-1 counter on Scurry Oak and causing you to draw a card.
  6. Resolve the Scurry Oak trigger, putting a +1/+1 counter on it, triggering Scurry Oak's second ability.
  7. Holding priority, activate Yawgmoth by paying 1 life and sacrificing a creature.
  8. When the creature dies, Cruel Celebrant triggers, causing you to gain 1 life and each opponent to lose 1 life.
  9. Resolve the Yawgmoth ability, putting a -1/-1 counter on Scurry Oak and causing you to draw a card.
  10. Resolve the Scurry Oak trigger, creating a 1/1 Squirrel creature token.
  11. When the Squirrel enters the battlefield, Scurry Oak's evolve ability triggers.
  12. Repeat from step 6.

This delightfully morbid loop transforms Scurry Oak and a steady stream of tokens into a self-sustaining engine of life and death, fueled entirely by Yawgmoth, Thran Physician's ability to sacrifice creatures and draw cards at the cost of life. While Yawgmoth handles the card draw and removal, Cruel Celebrant ensures that every sacrifice and death in the cycle drains your opponents' life totals while comfortably padding your own to pay for Yawgmoth's activations. Whenever Scurry Oak takes a -1/-1 counter and subsequently receives a +1/+1 counter via its evolve trigger, the two counters instantly annihilate each other due to state-based actions, leaving the Oak perpetually primed to grow again and churn out fresh Squirrel tokens to keep the loop spinning indefinitely.
