How it works

1. Activate Fanatical Firebrand by tapping and sacrificing it.
2. When Fanatical Firebrand dies, Mortuary and Embalmed Ascendant trigger.
3. Resolve the Mortuary trigger, putting Fanatical Firebrand from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
4. Resolve the Embalmed Ascendant trigger, causing you to gain 1 life and each opponent to lose 1 life.
5. Resolve the Fanatical Firebrand ability.
6. Cast Fanatical Firebrand from the top of your library by paying 1 life.
7. Repeat.

This clever loop turns a humble Goblin pirate into a relentless engine of destruction, fueled entirely by life-payment rather than mana. When you sacrifice Fanatical Firebrand to ping any target, its death triggers both Mortuary—which neatly recycles the goblin right back to the top of your library—and Embalmed Ascendant's max speed ability, which drains your opponents and pads your life total. Meanwhile, Gwenom, Remorseless lets you look at the top of your library and cast Fanatical Firebrand directly from it, bypassing its mana cost by paying a single point of life instead. Because Embalmed Ascendant's life gain easily offsets Gwenom's life payment, you can repeat this sequence indefinitely to deal infinite damage and sweep the board.
