How it works

1. Activate Glare of Subdual by tapping Cinderhaze Wretch, tapping a creature an opponent controls.
2. Solitary Sanctuary triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on Cinderhaze Wretch.
3. Activate Cinderhaze Wretch's second ability by putting a -1/-1 counter on it, untapping it.
4. Repeat as desired.

This elegant engine turns Cinderhaze Wretch into an absolute machine for locking down your opponents' boards. By leveraging Glare of Subdual, you can tap down an opponent's creature using Cinderhaze Wretch as the cost, which in turn triggers Solitary Sanctuary's second ability to place a +1/+1 counter on Cinderhaze Wretch. Because Solitary Sanctuary's stat-buff counters neatly neutralize the -1/-1 counters required to activate Cinderhaze Wretch's self-untap ability, you can continuously reset the creature and repeat the process to completely immobilize everything your opponents control.
