How it works
Cast Saw in Half by paying 2, destroying Returned Pastcaller and creating two token copies of it with base power equal to half the destroyed creature's power and base toughness equal to half the destroyed creature's toughness, rounding up each time.
When the Returned Pastcaller tokens enter the battlefield, they trigger, returning Saw in Half and Burnt Offering from your graveyard to your hand.
Cast Burnt Offering by paying and sacrificing a Returned Pastcaller token, adding plus an additional amount of and/or equal to its mana value minus 2.
Repeat.
This crafty loop turns a single Spirit into a self-sustaining engine by exploiting Saw in Half to continuously double your resources. When you target Returned Pastcaller with the spell, its two newly created token copies enter the battlefield and trigger their ability, pulling both Saw in Half and Burnt Offering right back out of your graveyard. You then feed one of those tokens to Burnt Offering to generate the necessary mana to fund the next iteration, leaving you with an extra token leftover each time. It’s a brilliant way to churn through your graveyard while flooding the board and generating infinite mana, death triggers, and storm count.
