How it works

  1. If Morselhoarder has any -1/-1 counters on it, activate it by removing a -1/-1 counter from it, adding one mana of any color.
  2. Repeat step 1 as necessary until Morselhoarder has no -1/-1 counters on it.
  3. Activate Shilgengar by sacrificing Morselhoarder.
  4. When Morselhoarder dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
  5. Resolve the Shilgengar ability.
  6. Repeat.

By transforming Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn into Isilu, Carrier of Twilight, you grant your other nontoken creatures persist, allowing Morselhoarder to return from the graveyard with a single -1/-1 counter whenever it dies. Since Morselhoarder naturally enters the battlefield with two -1/-1 counters and can strip them away for mana of any color, you can drain its counters to net resources before feeding it to Shilgengar, Sire of Famine. Shilgengar happily converts that sacrifice into Blood tokens while triggering the persist loop, generating an endless cascade of artifacts, sacrifices, and mana to fuel whatever victory you desire.
