How it works

1. Activate Umbral Collar Zealot by sacrificing Golgari Thug.
2. When Golgari Thug dies, it and Vein Ripper trigger.
3. Resolve the Golgari Thug trigger, putting it from your graveyard onto the top of your library.
4. Resolve the Vein Ripper trigger, causing you to gain 2 life and target opponent to lose 2 life.
5. Resolve the Umbral Collar Zealot ability.
6. Cast Golgari Thug from the top of your library by paying 2 life.
7. Repeat.

This elegant loop turns a modest Golgari Thug into a relentless engine of recycling and doom, powered by the life-paying alternative cost granted by Gwenom, Remorseless. By sacrificing the Thug to Umbral Collar Zealot, you trigger Vein Ripper to steadily drain your opponent while simultaneously stacking the Thug right back onto your library. Gwenom then lets you recast that very same Thug directly from the top by paying life instead of mana, safely fueling the cycle before the Zealot consumes it once again.
