How it works

1. Activate Goblin Bombardment by sacrificing the creature with persist.
2. The persist ability triggers, returning that creature to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it, as well as a +1/+1 counter due to Gev.
3. The +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on that creature are removed as a state-based action.
4. Resolve the ability from step 1, dealing 1 damage to any target.
5. Repeat.

This elegant loop relies on a creature with the persist ability, which normally can only save it from the graveyard once before the -1/-1 counter locks it out. **Goblin Bombardment** provides the reliable sacrifice outlet to bin the creature and convert its death into direct damage. Enter **Gev, Scaled Scorch**, whose static ability acts as the secret engine of this combo by granting entering creatures an additional +1/+1 counter whenever an opponent has lost life that turn. Because state-based actions instantly neutralize matching +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters the moment they coexist, Gev's bonus completely resets the persist counter restriction, allowing the creature to return to the battlefield fresh and ready to be sacrificed all over again.
