How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Wingrattle Scarecrow.
2. When Wingrattle Scarecrow dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Melira.
3. Repeat.

This clever loop turns Wingrattle Scarecrow into an endless engine for colorless mana and sacrifice triggers, all thanks to the static protection of Melira, Sylvok Outcast. Ordinarily, persist would return the Scarecrow with a -1/-1 counter, halting its own recursion, but Melira steps in to block those counters entirely so it can return completely fresh every time. Ashnod's Altar then provides the necessary sacrifice outlet to fuel the loop while generating a steady stream of mana with every iteration.
