How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Thunderblust.
2. When Thunderblust dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Melira.
3. Repeat.

This clever loop hinges on Melira, Sylvok Outcast, whose passive ability prevents -1/-1 counters from ever being placed on your creatures. Because of this protection, when Thunderblust dies and its persist ability triggers, it returns to the battlefield completely clean of the counter that would normally shut the keyword off. You can then feed Thunderblust right back into Ashnod's Altar to generate an endless stream of colorless mana alongside infinite death and sacrifice triggers.
