How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Melira.
2. When Melira dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to its static effect.
3. Repeat.

This loop relies on the clever synergy between Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight and Melira, Sylvok Outcast, all powered by Ashnod's Altar. By transforming Eirdu into Isilu, your nontoken creatures gain persist, allowing them to return from the graveyard upon dying. Ordinarily, this would saddle the returning creature with a -1/-1 counter, but Melira's static ability completely prevents those counters from being placed on your creatures. This lets you endlessly sacrifice Melira to Ashnod's Altar for colorless mana and trigger her persist ability over and over again without ever running out of room to return safely.
