How it works

1. Activate Ashnod's Altar by sacrificing Obstinate Gargoyle.
2. When Obstinate Gargoyle dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Melira.
3. Repeat.

This engine relies on Melira, Sylvok Outcast to bypass the mechanical drawback of persist, ensuring Obstinate Gargoyle never actually accumulates the -1/-1 counters that would normally stop it from returning. Each time the Gargoyle loops back from the graveyard, Ashnod's Altar eagerly converts it into a fresh pair of colorless mana while fueling endless sacrifice, death, and entry triggers.
