How it works

1. Activate Phyrexian Altar by sacrificing Melira.
2. When Melira dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to its static effect.
3. Repeat.

This loop is a masterclass in turning a card's own drawback into an engine of endless power, anchored entirely by the protective static shield of Melira, Sylvok Outcast. Because Melira stops -1/-1 counters from being placed on your creatures, the persist ability granted by Isilu, Carrier of Twilight (the back face of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn) fails to penalize your creatures when they return from the dead. You simply sacrifice Melira to Phyrexian Altar to generate a mana of any color, watch her immediately return to the battlefield via persist with a clean slate, and repeat the cycle as many times as you desire.
