How it works

  1. Activate Altar of Dementia by sacrificing Melira.
  2. When Melira dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to its static effect.
  3. Resolve the Altar of Dementia ability.
  4. Repeat.

This clever loop centers around the clever protection of Melira, Sylvok Outcast, whose static ability prevents creatures you control from ever receiving -1/-1 counters. Because of this, when Melira is sacrificed to Altar of Dementia, her death triggers the persist ability granted by the back face of Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn // Isilu, Carrier of Twilight (Isilu, Carrier of Twilight). Melira returns to the battlefield completely free of counters, ready to be immediately sacrificed to the Altar again for infinite mill and death triggers.
