How it works

1. Activate Umbral Collar Zealot by sacrificing Obstinate Gargoyle.
2. When Obstinate Gargoyle dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Melira.
3. Resolve the Umbral Collar Zealot ability
4. Repeat.

This clever little loop relies on Obstinate Gargoyle's persist ability to bring it back from the grave every time it hits the dirt, but Melira, Sylvok Outcast steps in with her passive prevention to completely cancel out the dreaded -1/-1 counter that would normally shut the recursion down for good. To put this engine into motion, you simply feed the gargoyle into Umbral Collar Zealot's sacrifice ability, turning an endless cycle of sacrifices into a bottomless well of death triggers, enter-the-battlefield events, and surveil triggers.
