How it works

1. Activate Thermopod by sacrificing Heartmender.
2. When Heartmender dies, its persist ability triggers, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield without a -1/-1 counter on it due to Melira.
3. Repeat.

This infinite loop thrives on the elegant prevention power of Melira, Sylvok Outcast, whose static ability ensures that creatures you control simply cannot have -1/-1 counters placed upon them. When you sacrifice Heartmender to Thermopod's active sacrifice ability, its persist triggered ability normally would return it to the battlefield bearing a -1/-1 counter. However, Melira's watchful presence completely neutralizes that drawback, allowing Heartmender to return completely unscathed and ready to be sacrificed to the Thermopod again for an endless supply of red mana, death triggers, and enters-the-battlefield events.
