How it works
- Activate Thermopod by sacrificing the persist creature.
- When the persist creature dies, it and Dragon Appeasement trigger.
- Resolve the Dragon Appeasement trigger, causing you to draw a card.
- Resolve the persist creature's trigger, returning it from your graveyard to the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it.
- When the persist creature enters the battlefield, Olivia triggers, putting a +1/+1 counter on the persist creature and causing you to discard a card.
- Repeat.
This loop thrives on turning the drawback of persist creatures into pure momentum, neatly canceling out their -1/-1 counters by immediately layering on a positive buff. Whenever your persist creature hits the graveyard, Thermopod steps in as the sacrifice outlet to generate red mana while simultaneously triggering Dragon Appeasement to draw you a card. As the creature returns to the battlefield, Olivia, Mobilized for War triggers to grant it a +1/+1 counter—which immediately neutralizes its existing -1/-1 counter through state-based actions and sets it up to be sacrificed all over again.
