How it works

1. Cast the artifact by paying 0.
2. Toph, Hardheaded Teacher triggers, earthbending Boros Garrison.
3. Resolve the artifact spell.
4. Activate Trenching Steed by sacrificing Boros Garrison.
5. When Boros Garrison dies, Toph, Hardheaded Teach triggers, returning Boros Garrison from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
6. When Boros Garrison enters, it triggers, returning the artifact cast in step 1 from the battlefield to your hand, as it's a land due to Toph, the First Metalbender.
7. Resolve the Trenching Steed ability
8. Repeat.

This clever loop relies on Toph, the First Metalbender to turn your zero-mana artifact into a land, allowing it to interact directly with the bounce trigger of Boros Garrison. Once Boros Garrison is on the battlefield, you can sacrifice it to feed Trenching Steed's ability. Thanks to the earthbend trigger from Toph, Hardheaded Teacher, sending the animated Boros Garrison to the graveyard doesn't lose it forever—instead, its death triggers the return effect that brings it right back onto the battlefield tapped. When Boros Garrison re-enters, its bounce ability targets your zero-mana artifact, returning it to your hand so you can recast it and restart the whole cycle while generating an endless stream of triggers.
