How it works

2. Because Sorcerous Spyglass prevents Aether Storm's activated ability from being activated, it cannot be destroyed due to its ability.

This clever stax lock relies on Sorcerous Spyglass naming Aether Storm as it enters the battlefield, which completely turns off Aether Storm's life-payment activated ability so opponents can't pay to destroy it. With that escape hatch permanently sealed by the Spyglass, Aether Storm's static ability stays firmly in place to completely shut down all creature spells from being cast.
