How it works

1. Activate either of the creatures by tapping it, targeting the other creature.
2. If the tapped creature was a Merfolk, Deeproot Pilgrimage triggers, creating a 1/1 Merfolk creature token.
3. Resolve the ability from step 1, untapping the targeted creature.
4. Repeat.

This clever setup achieves infinite loops by letting Forensic Researcher and North Pole Patrol take turns untapping one another endlessly. Because at least one of these two untappers is a Merfolk, every activation triggers Deeproot Pilgrimage to mint a fresh 1/1 blue Merfolk token with hexproof right along with the sequence. This creates an unbounded number of entering-the-battlefield triggers and an infinite army of tokens ready to overwhelm your opponents.
