How it works

1. Activate Gilder Bairn by tapping it, adding .
2. Activate Gilder Bairn by paying G/U and untapping it, doubling each counter on target permanent.
3. Repeat.

This clever loop relies on Ashaya, Soul of the Wild to turn Gilder Bairn into a Forest land in addition to its creature type, allowing Gilder Bairn to tap directly for mana to help pay its own activation cost. Meanwhile, Zirda, the Dawnwaker serves as the ultimate cost reducer, slashing the activation price of Gilder Bairn's untap ability down to its minimum of one mana. Because the untap symbol ({Q}) means "untap this permanent," paying that single remaining mana lets you constantly untap Gilder Bairn while doubling the counters on your chosen permanent over and over again.
